PEPPERMINT

(Mentha piperita)

The peppermint herb as we know it today is actually a hybrid. Formed by nature in a spearmint field in England in 1696, it is probably a cross between mentha aquatica (water mint) and M. spicata (spearmint). It is square, hardy stems and serrated, paired leaves are covered with oil glands that contain the essential oil. once established, this member of the family Lamaicaeae reproduces vegativity with is spreading root system, This enables the herb to return year after year with little further cultivation. The small flowers, which bloom in summer are one of the menthol by which one can determine where the peppermint is defined as black or white. Black peppermint has purple flowers and stem, whereas white peppermint has white flowers. When distilled, approximately 33 lbs of herb will yield on lbs of oil

Early record of a peppermint relative have been found in Egypt in the Temple of Edfu, in hieroglyphics dedicated to the god Horus. it was mentioned in the Bible and in Greek and Roman mythology and poetry In fact the name "mint" comes from the nymph Ninthe who was found in Pluto's arms by his wife Persephone and subsequently transformed into an herb to be trampled underfoot. Pliny the Elder (23 AD  to 79 AD), author of Historia Naturalis, wrote "The smell of mint sirs up the mind and appetite, to a greedy desire for food."

Peppermint grows wild throughout Europe, North America, and Australia. The U.S. is the largest commercial producer, followed by Eastern Europe and Japan.  It is often redistilled to produces the lightest  flavor for candies an gums. The use of anything containing peppermint is not recommended for use at night as it could interfere with sleep. Extreme caution should be taken in applying to children, especially around the neck and throat

Though derived from spearmint, peppermint has a distinct advantage over its parent plant: spearmint contains no menthol and is used almost exclusively as flavoring.  Peppermint's primary constituent is menthol (over 70%), which is used ideally in leading brands of mouthwash.

Studies have shown that is improves concentration and mental accuracy  and sustained attention. It also affects the liver and respiration. Scientists have also research peppermints role in affecting impaired taste, and smell and metal accuracy when inhaled, as well as triggering weight loss.

"The Paved Highway of Belief through touch and sight leads straightest into the human heart and the precints of the mind."- Lucretius

As long as the spirit is strong, the body will follow for the body is forever the slave of your mind and can be willed to achieve great feats.

A strong positive mental attitude will create more miracles than any wonder drug.
