The Nervous System
The Nervous System (Relaxation) houses the brain, spinal cord and nerves as the body's short term communications system. It is the body's circuit breaker. The Nervous System is the body's information gatherer, storage center, and control system Its overall function is to collect information about the body's external state, to analyze this information, and to respond appropriately to satisfy certain needs, the most powerful of which is survival The nerves do not form one single system but several interrelated systems. The peripheral nervous system is responsible for the body functions that are not under conscious control (such as heartbeat or digestive system). The nervous system uses electrical impulses which travel along the length of the cells. Each cell processes information from the sensory nerves and initiates action within milliseconds (these impulses travel at speeds up to 250 mph while others systems such as the endocrine system take many hours to respond with hormones).
